Our History
OUR MISSION
To strengthen and assist community and faith-based organizations by
providing resources to become self-sufficient through economic empowerment.
To promote education, training, and capacity building for faith-based
and community organizations, thereby strengthening their voice in the
outcomes of their community, government and labor force environments.
WINGS OF FAITH, INC. (WOF)
Wings of Faith, Inc. (WOF) is a nonprofit, non-partisan, multicultural,
ecumenical faith-based organization that has pioneered many community
initiatives and collaborative in the Wayne County area. Located inside
the Samaritan Center, the largest faith-based one stop facility in Michigan,
WOF has been instrumental in securing partners to provide a coordinated
system of services for ex-offenders, current and recovering substance
abusers, high-risk youth, aging/elderly, chronically unemployed, and
many others.
- Wings of Faith, Inc. is the community liaison and contact to faith-based
entities for the coordinated system of services that include but is
not limited to medical, youth, family, community, adult, senior citizen,
and faith-based programs.
- Wings of Faith, Inc. brings together community and faith-based partners
from all sectors to provide necessary resources needed for the revitalization
of individuals, family and community life.
Wings of Faith, Inc. has been a pioneer in collaborating with faith-based
and community-based organizations to increase their organizational capacity
for social service delivery. Projects that WOF has initiated, implemented
and/or collaborated with are as follows:
Give Faith a Chance Seminar- provide grant writing,
capacity building, and collaboration among community based organizations
and the church.
AIDS Awareness - conduct program designed for HIV/AIDS
prevention among youth and adults.
Health Fair - provide avenues for a healthy community
by making health resources available.
Wayne County Sheriff's Department-Second Chance Program -
with state and local collaborations, provide job placement, substance
abuse, and career counseling to incarcerated individuals.
Outreach Programs - implement recruiting and mentoring
services utilizing the faith-based community for youth and adults.
Russell Street Community Development Corporation -
design and implement community and economic development initiatives.
Informational Campaigns and Technical Assistance Provided for
Capacity Building-
A Tax Exempt Application 501(c)(3) Seminar For New and Existing
Organizations - Conduct a series of workshops to: (1) assist
new and existing churches and organizations with its 501(c)(3) application;
(2) explain the Tax Exempt Law; (3) enable participants to leave with
a completed application ready for mailing.
Give Faith a Chance Initiative - sponsored a three-part
conference designed to work with churches and higher education institutions
to address community needs. Conference topics included: Roundtable One
- The Education Dilemma: Connecting the Church to Families; and Roundtable
Two - Economic Development in the Twenty-First Century Church.
Ex-Offenders' Job Readiness Workshops - hosted, in
collaboration with state and local partners, employment services and
educational workshops.
Wings of Faith and The Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for
Self Development - co-sponsored a faith-based forum to promote
positive self-esteem and community development.
The Michigan Faith-Based Summit - Jackson, MI - Co-sponsored
a faith-based summit/conference designed to provide technical assistance
to Michigan faith-based and community organizations.
NEW PROJECTS
Faith-Based Employment (FBE) - is a newly designed
project that is an internet-based labor exchange system utilizing the
Michigan Talent Bank to link Wayne County residents to jobs via faith-based
sites. FBE has a mission to assist in the expansion of the labor force
by providing access to a network of pre-training and training programs
that produce skilled, competitive, and upwardly mobile employees. Faith-based
job fairs, web sites, and other planned enhancements via faith sites
are currently in motion.
Holistic Life Center (Located in Hamtramck) a Wings of Faith,
Inc. Satellite - a nonprofit organization that consists of
professionals from diverse fields and backgrounds, joined together
dedicating themselves to helping to improve the quality of life for
individual, family and community particularly in Wayne County through
economic empowerment. Serving 51 different racial ethnic cultures to
enhance and motivate community appreciation and revitalization.
Michigan Reentry Initiative - Walk With Me Program - Department
of Corrections/Wings of Faith, Inc. the Community Reentry Authority -
a collaboration with the Department of Corrections funded by the U.S.
Department of Justice/Office of Justice Programs. Designed to create
a prototypical reentry system that addresses serious and violent adult
offender population ages 18-35. Project goals are to provide institutional
readiness, community reentry and stabilization. The end result and
goal of the program is to increase public safety by reducing recidivism
among the adult offender population.
Michigan Reentry Initiative - The Family Independence Agency - a
collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice/Office of Justice Programs/Family
Independence Agency/Central Care Management Organization designed to
provide mentoring services for at-risk youth ages 13-17, utilizing faith-based
and community-based organizations as sites of service. Project goals
are to provide institutional readiness, community reentry and stabilization.
The end result and goal of the program is to increase public safety by
reducing recidivism among the juvenile offender population.
